EU proposals:Lufthansa complains about climate costs

According to Lufthansa’s calculations, the climate protection laws proposed by the EU Commission lead to high additional costs. All three measures proposed for air traffic in the “Fitfor55” legislative package are an enormous competitive disadvantage for European airlines. “For the Lufthansa Group alone, the proposed Fitfor55 package would mean cumulative additional costs of 15 to 20 billion euros by 2035.” The EU Commission has proposed that airlines have to pay more for carbon dioxide (CO2) in the European emissions trading system. In addition, a kerosene tax is to be introduced and an obligation to gradually use more synthetic fuel. Lufthansa declared that it basically supports the ambitions of the EU.
