EU Parliament – Cheap roaming for ten more years – Economy

MEPs have approved lower roaming charges. They agreed to lower rates by 2032 that mobile operators pay each other when their customers travel to another EU country and make calls, use data or write messages. Now the formal agreement is still missing, but this is expected in the coming weeks. Most recently, the fees for the EU countries as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway were significantly capped in 2017.

In the Corona crisis, the roaming income of the telecom companies fell due to the lower volume of travel. The MP and former roaming rapporteur Angelika Niebler (CSU) now said: “In challenging times like these, it is a good sign that Europe is continuing to grow together , but important contribution.”
