As of: October 4th, 2023 2:25 p.m

Once in your life by train across Europe – for many the epitome of freedom. The EU is giving away 36,000 such tickets to young Europeans. You can apply until October 18th.

Just turned of age and taking the train through Europe: 36,000 young Europeans once again have the chance to win a free ticket for train travel across the continent. The European Commission launched the next round of the “DiscoverEU” travel program. Young adults can apply for the tickets until October 18th at 12 p.m., as the Brussels authority announced. Citizens of EU countries as well as Iceland, Liechtenstein, North Macedonia, Norway, Serbia and Turkey can take part.

30 days across Europe

If you want to win a free ticket, you first have to prove your knowledge in a short quiz. Winners can then travel across Europe for up to 30 days between March 1, 2024 and May 31, 2025.

The program is aimed at 18 year olds. Anyone born between January 1st and December 31st 2005 can take part. Participants with a disability or health problems can be accompanied.

The “DiscoverEU” initiative started in 2018 and was the brainchild of activists Vincent-Immanuel Herr and Martin Speer. Their proposal to give every EU citizen an Interrail ticket for their 18th birthday and thus familiarize them with the continent was met with a lot of support from politicians and society.
