In the EU corruption scandal, the deposed Vice President of the European Parliament, Eva Kaili, has apparently admitted some allegations. As the daily newspapers “Le Soir” and “La Repubblica” reported, citing investigation documents, the 44-year-old Greek woman admitted, among other things, that she had instructed her father to hide cash before her arrest.

In addition, the coroner is quoted from the documents: “She (Kaili) states that she knew in the past about her husband’s activities with Mr. Panzeri and that suitcases with money were smuggled through her apartment.”

The Belgian judiciary has been investigating suspected corruption, money laundering and influence from abroad for months in the vicinity of the European Parliament. It is said that the Gulf Emirate of Qatar is said to have tried to influence political decisions with gifts of money and goods. According to reports, Morocco tried to do the same.

Kaili’s father was arrested by investigators on December 9 trying to hide a suitcase full of cash in a Brussels hotel after Kaili warned him about a large-scale operation by Belgian investigators.

Kaili also tried to warn two MEPs, the two newspapers write. When asked by the newspapers, Kaili’s lawyer André Risopoulos said he was personally outraged that they had access to the investigators’ documents. He did not confirm that the testimony was a partial confession.

Kaili is currently in custody in Belgium, along with her partner and former Italian MEP Antonio Panzeri.

Italy: Court authorizes extradition of Panzeri’s wife

It had previously become known that Panzeris’ wife was extradited to Belgium in the corruption scandal. A court in the northern Italian city of Brescia granted her extradition, as reported by several Italian media. A European arrest warrant has been issued against the woman.

Law enforcement accuses the woman of corruption, money laundering and involvement in a criminal organization. So far she has been under house arrest with her daughter.

According to the Ansa news agency, the defenders of the 67-year-old want to appeal the decision. Before the announcement, you criticized that your client would have to go to prison if she was extradited – that was an intensification of the previous measure, house arrest. In this context, the woman’s defenders spoke of “violating the European Convention on Human Rights”.

Panzeri’s wife had testified before the court that she had never been accused of vacationing for 100,000 euros. She knew nothing about her husband’s affairs.
