Compared to the pre-industrial reference period from 1850 to 1900, October 2023 was 1.7 degrees Celsius too warm, the European climate service Copernicus has announced. Compared to the warmer period from 1991 to 2020, it was still 0.85 degrees Celsius above the reference value. This means that the year 2023 will “almost certainly be the warmest since records began.” Only one month has ever been even further behind the comparative values - September 2023.
