The Italian civil protection agency said in an official statement that Etna had entered a pre-warning phase. This means that there is a high probability of a lava eruption soon. Etna is considered the most active volcano in Europe. However, its eruptions rarely cause major damage. It was only in May that the volcano erupted with explosions and a rain of ash. The nearby airport of Catania had to stop operations.
