Ethiopians Uma and Fikir tame the Parisian roads

Little surprise on the Paris marathon this Sunday. Less than four months before the Olympics, the Ethiopian Uma Mulugueta defied the predictions and won the race ahead of one of the big favorites of the day, the Kenyan Titus Kipruto. The latter had taken control of the tempo from kilometer 35, before breaking down when faced with something stronger than him. Uma completed the 42.195 kilometers in 2h05 and 33 seconds, 15 seconds better than his runner-up, whom he dropped just under three kilometers from the finish.

Among the women, another surprising Ethiopian won. Novice Mestawut Fikir won the marathon in 2h20 and 45 seconds at the finish ahead of her compatriot Enat Tirusew, who finished two seconds behind after a spectacular final sprint.
