The first batch of tests of the Ethereum Blockchain for the upcoming Merge was completed on Wednesday. The Ropsten Test Network (Testnet) has successfully integrated layers. Proof-of-Work joins the Beacon Chain’s Proof-of-Stake, the same process that Ethereum’s main network will get in the coming months. (If everything goes well)
This integration marks a long-awaited milestone in Ethereum’s journey towards a new Proof-of-Work (PoS) mechanism. Huge energy to mine new blocks and add them to the blockchain to receive newly issued ETH and part of the transaction fee as a reward. When Ethereum makes the switch from PoW to PoS, validators need to stake 32 ETH to will play a role in adding new blocks to the blockchain
