Ethereum Lead Developer Tim Beiko posted on Twitter announcing details of the Goerli testnet. The Goerli testnet will merge into the Prater Beacon Chain and the Goerli/Prater Network. The merged will retain the name Goerli after the merger.

The testnet merge is done in two steps. Starting August 4th with Bellatrix upgrades on the consensus layer, Bellatrix upgrades will be triggered at an epoch height of 112260.
The second stage of the upgrade is called the Paris execution layer. Proof-of-work (PoW) is proof-of-stake. This phase is expected to be completed between August 6-12, the Paris upgrade will be triggered by a specific Terminal Total Difficulty (TTD) at 10790000.
