Ethereum Completes Gray Glacier Hard Fork To Postpone ‘Difficulty Bomb’ To September

Gray Glacier’s hard fork requires client software providers in the execution layer such as Nethermind and Geth to update their Ethereum nodes, Nethermind confirmed in a statement.Twitter Post that the upgrade was successful

What is a Difficulty Bomb?

Difficulty Bomb is a feature that ensures Ethereum merge or transition from proof-of-work as proof-of-stake Blockchain will run smoothly. By this mechanism, Ethereum blocks are harder to mine. And it reduces the incentive for miners from the forking chain in what is known as the “Ice Age” of Ethereum.

Why is Difficulty Bomb delayed?

Ethereum’s core developers previously set the Difficulty Bomb to launch on June 29th, expecting the merge to occur during this time, however, due to the delay in the merge, the difficulty bomb had to be postponed.
