A Hollywood star on a long-distance bus: After several of his flights were canceled, Ethan Hawke quickly took the bus to the Toronto Film Festival.
Ethan Hawke (52) traveled to the Toronto film festival on a Greyhound intercity bus. The rather difficult transport method became necessary because three of the Hollywood star’s flights to the Canadian film metropolis had previously been canceled. as Hawke told People magazine. The 52-year-old’s directorial film “Wildcat” was shown at the Toronto International Film Festival (TIFF), in which his daughter Maya Hawke (25) plays the leading role.
Ethan Hawke: “I won’t miss it”
The father and daughter were asked on the festival’s red carpet if it was true that the star traveled to Toronto by bus. “That’s him! Everyone’s talking about it!” said “Stranger Things” star Maya Hawke. Her father said he didn’t let the canceled flights stop him from attending the Toronto premiere of his new film.
“I won’t miss this because of some airport,” the star described his thoughts before getting on the long-distance bus. Hawke was able to spend most of the trip on the Greyhound bus without being recognized. “Nobody cares about anyone else on the bus and nobody feels comfortable there.”
During the journey he disappeared behind a book in the back of the vehicle. Hawke was accompanied on the trip by his second wife and producer partner Ryan Hawke.
The biopic “Wildcat” is about writer Flannery O’Connor
In Toronto yesterday, Monday (September 11th), father and daughter presented their latest work “Wildcat”, a biopic about the writer Flannery O’Connor (1925-1964). Maya Hawke had previously received an exemption from the actors’ union SAG-AFTRA to be able to present and promote the independent production at the film festival despite the ongoing strike by actors and actresses in Hollywood.
“Producing this film was indescribably special and one of the greatest experiences of my life,” said the 25-year-old about working with her famous father. He added that he was “very proud” of his daughter, a compliment that he immediately received back. Maya Hawke also says she is “very proud” of her father and director Ethan Hawke.
Maya Hawke comes from the marriage of Ethan Hawke and actress Uma Thurman (53), which divorced in 2004. Since 2019 she has appeared in the successful Netflix series “Stranger Things” as Robin Buckley.
