ETA Hoffmann’s fairy tale “The Strange Child” as a total work of art – Munich

ETA Hoffmann wrote his romantic fairy tale “The Strange Child” in 1817, “for children big and small”, as he put it. Today it is considered a master story, with which he laid the foundation for the literary motif of the strange child. In the story, this small, mysterious creature meets a pair of siblings in the forest. The Secession Verlag has now re-released this story as a multimedia synthesis of the arts. Bulgarian artist Katina Peeva drew the enchanting illustrations, and the book comes with a QR code to enjoy compositions to the text. The music is based on Hoffmann’s own composition, the Quintet for Harp in D minor. The project was supported by the opera singer Ina Kancheva, who has been involved with her own foundation for “music in books” for years.
