Estrosi proposes the creation of a “temporary” detention center in the face of “migratory pressure”

Faced with “increasing migratory pressure”, Christian Estrosi proposed to Gérald Darmanin the “urgent” creation of a new “deported and temporary” administrative detention center (CRA) in Nice. The mayor of the fifth city of France defends this idea in a letter addressed to the Minister of the Interior while the country “lacks places” in these structures “yet essential to expel foreigners in an irregular situation”.

Created “for a few months, the time that the pressure is released” in the Alpes-Maritimes, this center would have 50 places and would be added to the CRA already existing in Nice, at the Auvare barracks, and which can accommodate 40 people.

The question of human resources

The services of the city and the metropolis, “ready to contribute to the logistics that would result from it”, have identified “three places that can meet the constraints”, adds Christian Estrosi in this letter also signed by his first deputy.

“We are working with the prefect on long-term solutions. However, the situation is too urgent and requires strong, immediate and concerted action. And to emphasize that the two communities are “particularly impacted” because of “their proximity to the Italian border”.

Beyond the question of real estate or logistics arises that of human resources, according to a source familiar with the matter. It takes 80 civil servants to take care of 40 people held in an CRA.
