The Swedish National Day is coming. Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar pose for it in traditional costume and a suit – just like their parents.
On June 6th, Swedes celebrate their national holiday. On this special date, the whole country lights up in blue and yellow. The royal family around Carl XVI. Gustaf and his wife Silvia celebrate the tradition year after year. This time the palace published new photos of Crown Princess Victoria with her husband Prince Daniel and their two children the night before.
In addition to a shot that only shows Princess Estelle and Prince Oscar together, there is a family photo of four – in a partner look. Like her mother, the eleven-year-old traditionally wears the white, yellow and blue national dress. Her brother, who is four years younger, is dressed like his father in a dark blue suit with a white shirt and matching tie.
The royals pose side by side for photographer Linda Broström in the courtyard of Gripsholm Palace, all beaming for the camera. As another Instagram post shows, the children also received a lesson in the history of their family in the historic walls. Because this year is a special anniversary.
Sweden celebrates 500 years of independence
On Tuesday it will be five centuries since Gustav Wasa was elected king in Strängnäs in 1523 and Sweden ushered in a new era. The country left the Kalmar Union with Denmark and Norway and can now “celebrate 500 years as a free and independent nation,” says the post that shows Estelle and Oscar in front of a painting of the first king.
The Swedish royal family advertises that the national holiday this time – moreover in the 50th year of the throne of Carl XVI. Gustaf – the celebrations are bigger than usual. The king and his wife do so in Strängnäs and then in Stockholm, where they also attend the official celebration at Skansen open-air museum. In the evening there will be a reception at the Nordiska Museet.
The entire royal family is said to be there on June 6th. Also Princess Madeleine, as the palace has already confirmed. At the beginning of March it became known that Victoria and Carl Philip’s sister was moving back to Sweden. The 40-year-old had lived in Florida with her husband and their three children since 2018. But as early as August 2023 they should return to their homeland, the palace announced.
