Suff-Kopp paints false crosswalks on the street

Meal – His intentions were quite noble. However, the implementation is a bit clumsy.

Last Friday, at around 1:15 p.m., the police moved out to an operation on Heckstrasse near Haus Fuhr in Essen-Werden. A drunk man (48) was squatting in the middle of the street and had begun to paint a zebra crossing on the road.

“Although the man’s supposed work of art was not yet completed, some children were already using this fake crosswalk and felt safe,” says a police spokesman.

Some cars had to brake hard to avoid a collision. The paint was spread meters over the asphalt by the vehicles rolling over it.

Luckily there was no accident. “The drunk 48-year-old justified his dangerous urge to paint by saying that children could not safely cross the street at this point,” said the police. Unfortunately, he had achieved exactly the opposite.

The fire brigade then had a hard time removing the wrong zebra crossing. Because the paint was more stubborn than expected, the civil engineering department had to be called in to clean it up. The road was closed for the duration of the cleaning work.

The man is now facing criminal proceedings because of the dangerous intervention in road traffic. And it will be checked whether he has to bear the cleaning costs.
