The two fugitives, 25 and 33, of Moldovan nationality, escaped during the night of February 26 to 27 by cutting the bars of their cell, using a homemade saw mounted on a broom handle.
That night, they had tricked the guards in charge of the night watch, putting a curtain over the sawn bars and slipping curled clothes into the beds to make it look like they were sleeping. For the youngest of them, the run ended on April 10 in Italy while his fellow detainee is still wanted, said the prosecutor of the Republic of Périgueux Solène Belaouar on Friday.

Under a European arrest warrant, the 25-year-old Moldovan was “handed over to the French authorities by the Italian authorities on May 4” and “presented on May 6 before the investigating judge of the Périgueux court” in charge of the judicial information on these facts of escape, specified the prosecutor. Charged with the charge of breaking and entering, he was remanded in custody “in a prison other than the Périgueux remand center”, added the magistrate, without further details.
The two men, who did not know each other before being imprisoned in this establishment, which was put into service in 1863, are suspected of belonging to the milieu of organized crime, but were “not known to the French authorities for acts of violence. or blood crime ”, according to the prosecution. At the time of the escape, they were imprisoned for theft in an organized gang and criminal association in separate cases, one investigated in Limoges for the 25-year-old fugitive, imprisoned for a year, and the other in Bordeaux for that 33 years old, in prison for six months.
