Politicians around the world have strongly condemned the attack on Israel. Chancellor Scholz warned Iran against further attacks. Foreign Minister Baerbock sees “incalculable consequences”.
After the Iranian air strikes on Israel, Chancellor Olaf Scholz warned against “any further escalation”. “You cannot continue on this path,” said Scholz in Chongqing, China. “We will do everything we can to ensure that there is no further escalation.”
Scholz once again strongly condemned the Iranian attack. “This is an inexcusable attack, it is a serious escalation of the situation.” It is in no way acceptable, understandable or acceptable. “We can only warn everyone, especially Iran, not to carry on like this,” said the Chancellor.
Baerbock warns of wildfire
Foreign Minister Annalena Baerbock also warned that the situation would worsen further. “I call on all actors in the region to act prudently,” said the Green politician. “The spiral of escalation must be broken. We must work together to end the violence.”
Baerbock further warns: “The millions of women, men and children in Israel, in Iran and throughout the region who couldn’t sleep last night because of fear, they all don’t want this escalation.” The situation in the region is being monitored very closely and we are in close coordination with various partners. Baerbock harshly condemned Iran’s nighttime attack with drones and missiles. “The Iranian regime has clearly led the entire Middle East to the brink of the abyss,” she said. The global condemnation of the Iranian attack and the support from the USA, Great Britain and the region show that Iran is isolated with its “aggressive behavior” and that Israel can defend itself.
“It’s about the right to exist of the Jewish state”
Green Party leader Ricarda Lang also said that Iran would accept a conflagration in the region with devastating consequences. “These drones come from a country that has set itself the goal of nothing other than the destruction and the erasure of Israel from the map,” said Lang. It is therefore not about a single military conflict, it is about the right to exist of the Jewish state, a place of protection for Jews worldwide.
Union parliamentary group leader Friedrich Merz called for tougher sanctions against Tehran after the Iranian air attack: “The federal government is now obliged to campaign for a noticeable tightening of sanctions against Iran at the European level.”
NATO condemns escalation
NATO also reacted with concern. “We condemn Iran’s overnight escalation, call for restraint and are monitoring developments closely,” said NATO spokeswoman Farah Dakhallah. It is important “that the conflict in the Middle East does not get out of control,” she emphasized.
“I am deeply concerned about the very real risk of a devastating escalation across the region,” said UN Secretary-General António Guterres, commenting on the events in the Middle East. Macron assures full solidarity
French President Emmanuel Macron said on the online service X that he strongly condemned Iran’s “unprecedented attack on Israel, which threatens to destabilize the region.” He assured the Israeli people of full solidarity. Paris is working with its partners on de-escalation and is calling for “restraint”.
British Prime Minister Rishi Sunak spoke of a “ruthless” attack by Iran on Israel. Iran has once again proven that it wants to “sow chaos in its own backyard,” Sunak said in a statement. Together with our allies we are working hard to stabilize the situation. “Nobody wants to see more bloodshed,” Sunak added. According to him, British fighter jets also shot down Iranian drones.
Saudi Arabia expressed deep concern about the military escalations in the region and the serious consequences. In a statement released by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the Kingdom calls on all parties to exercise utmost restraint and protect the region and its people from the threat of war.
