Escalade IQ: Cadillac launches electric luxury SUV with huge interior

The Escalade is part of the American street scene like the Golf is part of the German one. The gigantic SUV, which has been cruising the US highways for more than 20 years, has only got bigger and beefier over the years. And soon the car changes radically. Because the IQ is the first model in the series that completely dispenses with a combustion engine and relies entirely on electric power.

The vehicle will not be lacking in performance, however, because the Escalade IQ has a standard four-wheel drive with 690 hp and a torque of 834 Newton meters. This can even be increased at the touch of a button. A maximum of 760 hp and 1064 Newton meters are available. Although the Escalade is certainly not a lightweight, this should accelerate the car to 100 kilometers per hour in five seconds.

700 kilometers, 7 seats, from $130,000

For a comfortable ride, there should also be four-wheel steering with diagonal driving function, air suspension and magnetic dampers, which are supposed to “insulate” the occupants from bumps even on rough roads.

Cadillac specifies the range as over 700 kilometers, the battery has a capacity of 200 kilowatt hours. The Escalade IQ should be able to refuel up to 160 kilometers in 10 minutes at a fast charging station.

A total of seven seats are available in the vehicle, with the two rear rows of seats being able to be folded down completely. This ensures a maximum luggage volume of 3374 liters. The frunk – front trunk – offers another 345 liters.

Cadillac specifies the trailer load as 3.6 tons, which, for example, enables the transport of larger horse trailers without any problems.

Cadillac plans to build the Escalade IQ at GM’s Detroit-Hamtramck plant in the summer of 2024, with prices starting at $130,000. The company initially left open whether Cadillac wanted to bring the IQ to Germany.
