Prominent guests such as Florian Silbereisen and Mary Roos will be there to watch the election of Germany’s ESC entry live on site in Berlin.

Next Friday (February 16th, from 10:05 p.m.) and after an extensive search, the show “Eurovision Song Contest – the German Final 2024” will finally clarify who will be joining us in the upcoming one ESC will be represented in Malmö, Sweden. Germany’s entry for the ESC final on May 11th will be selected from nine acts in the first (also available via ONE, www.eurovision.de and the ARD media library). Former ESC participant Mary Roos (75), pop star Florian Silbereisen (42), singer Alli Neumann (29) and entertainer Riccardo Simonetti (30) will be on site in Berlin for this groundbreaking decision.

You take a seat next to the two “I want to go to the ESC!” coaches Conchita Wurst (35) and Rea Garvey (50) on the guest couch of presenter Barbara Schöneberger (49), who will lead the evening. In the six-part documentary program by Wurst and Garvey, the 28-year-old singer Floryan and his song “Scars” were chosen by the audience as one of the nine acts in the preliminary round.

A lot of experience comes into play

His eight opponents were meanwhile determined in a classic way: The NDR ESC editorial team chose, among others, Max Mutzke (42), the showmaster Stefan Raab (57) from almost 700 applications exactly 20 years ago as part of his program ” “TV total” was discovered. He is entering the race for 2024 with his song “Forever Strong”. Marie Reim (23), the daughter of a successful former musician couple, is also competing: the child of pop star Michelle (51) and “Damn, I love you” singer Matthias Reim (66) wants to score points with her song “Naiv”. .

The other acts are the band GALANT (“Katze”), singer-songwriter Isaak (27, “Always on the run”), the singers Leona (20, “Undream You”) and Bodine Monet (23, “Tears like rain” ) as well as the singers NinetyNine (24, “Love on a Budget”) and Ryk (33, “Oh Boy”).

How is voting done?

As with the actual ESC final, the decision on the German representative will be determined in two votes on February 16th. One half results from the points awarded by an international jury from the eight countries Spain, Lithuania, Switzerland, Austria, Great Britain, Sweden, Croatia and Iceland. The other half is cast by the TV audience via televoting.

If two acts end up at the top with the same number of points, the rating given by the viewers will decide. The good thing for our future ESC star, whoever it may be: He or she doesn’t have to suffer through one of the two semi-finals on May 7th and 9th – as a member of the “Big Five”, Germany is automatically for the final qualified on May 11th.
