Voting system for “Eurovision Song Contest – The German Final 2024”

The winning act was determined by audience voting and international jury voting. Both counted for 50 percent each, just like in the international ESC.

  • First, eight international juries evaluated according to the ESC scoring system (1 – 12 points, score 7 was omitted). In Spain, Lithuania, Switzerland, Austria, Great Britain, Sweden, Croatia and Iceland, five music professionals each evaluated the performances from the dress rehearsal from the previous evening. The totals were then converted back into 1 – 12 points. Here, too, the score was 7. The act that was in first place according to the jury voting received 12 points, the second 10, the third 8, etc.
  • The act that received the most votes in the audience voting (calls, SMS and online voting) received 12 points, the second best 10, etc.
  • The act with the most points in total is the winner of the preliminary round. In the event of a tie for first place, the audience’s higher score would have decided who went to Malmö

Search for the German ESC Act 2024

This year there were two paths to the German ESC final. Singers and bands could apply online via eurovision.de until October 15, 2023. A total of 693 applications were received. Most of the acts applied with their own songs, but some only applied as singers. At the same time, NDR also addressed artists directly. All titles were first evaluated by the ESC editorial team. An international panel of experts then also gave the top 32 a rating – in this case anonymously. Afterwards, the most promising acts had the opportunity to present their ESC suitability live in an audition.

“I want to go to the ESC!” – Boot camp with Conchita Wurst and Rea Garvey

The first five episodes were available in advance ARD media library. In the live show of “I want to go to the ESC!” On February 8th, it was up to the audience alone via tele and online voting to decide which of the finalists made it to the preliminary round. Conchita went with us Anne and Luca in the race, Rea with Floryan. One day before the live show, Bibiane Z from Rea’s team had to cancel her participation due to illness. In the end, Floryan prevailed.
