A 27-year-old man got into the current in Erlangen in the Regnitz – and is now missing. He was probably swimming near the Wöhrmühle weir system late Tuesday afternoon, as the police announced in the evening. Passers-by watched as the man was swept away by the current and finally pulled under the water. They then made an emergency call.
The police, fire brigade, DLRG, water rescue service and emergency services immediately began extensive search and rescue operations, it said. Two helicopters and several divers and boats were also used.
Around 8.30 p.m. – around three hours after the accident – the search for the 27-year-old was unsuccessful.
