I didn’t say my last word. It is both a promise and the title of the latest book by Éric Zemmour, a former presidential candidate, whose Le Figaro released a few selected excerpts on Tuesday. The president of the far-right Reconquest party does not just come back to his failure, eliminated in the first round with 7.07% of the vote and no more victorious in the legislative elections. He also knocks out former allies and political competitors.
“Marine Le Pen has suffered so much marginalization, caricature, the life of an outcast, rejection from childhood, so many things that I have not known, that to be dubbed, she is ready for anything. To all the denials, all the apostasies”, he reproaches him, considering that the former candidate of the RN “opposed (him) as the system had opposed her”. “She doesn’t care about ideas; in his eyes, all those who like their handling are only ideologues. She dresses in the tinsel of pragmatism her contempt for concepts and culture, ”he also criticizes.
The traitor and the impatient
And if he forges a link with his father, Jean-Marie Le Pen, with whom he says he shares the same passion for history, the former polemicist pours into scientific poetry to point out his lack of commonality with the old president of the RN: “We were like two mathematical sets without intersection”, he writes.
The president of Reconquest also targets the mayor of Béziers Robert Ménard, who, according to him, embodies “the pure and perfect figure of the traitor”, and whom he decks out with the nickname “Judas de Béziers”. According to him, Robert Ménard “played a role in this campaign far beyond his real political weight” because “he gave credibility to all the accusations, even the most outrageous, launched against me. His position as a supposed friend was ideal for discrediting me and giving substance to the arguments of my enemies”.
The president of the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region, Laurent Wauquiez (LR), with whom he claims to have considered for a time forming a “hitch” for the presidential election, also takes it for his rank. “Laurent Wauquiez is a curious mixture of brutality and slyness, precipitation and precaution, daring and pusillanimity”, mocks Zemmour, who describes him as “always in a hurry, always impatient, his eye riveted on his watch”.
