Erdogan threatens Athens with rocket attack politics

Turkish President Recep Erdogan (68) has indirectly threatened a rocket attack on Athens if Greece “does not rest” in the dispute over Greek islands.

Greece is nervous because the “Tayfun” rocket developed by Turkey could also hit Athens, Erdogan said on Sunday evening at a meeting with young people in Samsun, northern Turkey. “Of course, this production makes the Greeks nervous. You mention ‘Tayfun’ and the Greeks get nervous,” said the Turkish President.

The background to the rocket statements is a dispute over numerous inhabited and uninhabited islands in the eastern Mediterranean. Turkey is challenging Greek sovereignty over these islands and demanding the withdrawal of all Greek troops.

Erdogan’s threat to Athens: “If you try to take something away here and there, then a country like Turkey will of course not stand by and do something.”

The situation between the two NATO partners in the Aegean is extremely tense at the moment. Erdogan had repeatedly threatened Greece in the past few weeks with the sentence: “We could suddenly come one night.”

Now the missile threat!

According to the state broadcaster TRT, the range of the ballistic missile “Tayfun” is estimated at at least 300 kilometers – that’s about the distance that separates the Greek capital from Turkey. According to TRT, the rocket had already been successfully tested on the Black Sea in October.
