Microplastics have made it to every corner of the world. It is found in ice shelves as well as in the lianas of the tropics. Similar to plastic with its wear and tear, humans also leave tiny traces of themselves everywhere, all the time. Wherever he is, his genetic material can later be found. This can not only become a problem if aliens discover human DNA on the moon one day and thus come to the conclusion that humans must (have) been at home there. It actually raises ethical issues right here and now. Because a study in the journal Nature Ecology & Evolution shows that the quality of the scattered DNA is so high that it can be analyzed in detail – and thus obtain information about the person from whom it came.
