Eni’s 100,000 injured customers will be reimbursed by the electricity supplier

Do not panic if you are a customer of Eni. The Italian electricity supplier will reimburse its 100,000 customers injured in their bills in France to the tune of 50 million euros, announced Tuesday on RMC Agnès Pannier-Runacher, the Minister for Energy Transition. Some 34 million euros will be reimbursed this week, said the minister.

The leaders of Eni France, summoned last Wednesday by the minister, recognized erroneous invoices for customers who renewed their contracts in the second half of 2022, in particular because certain government protection measures had not been applied.

Increase in the price of electricity

In the fall of 2021, the State set up a “tariff shield” on energy to contain the bill for the French, from which the country must gradually emerge by the end of 2024. Damaged customers “will pay the same price in 2023 than those who are today at the regulated tariff at EDF, ”assured Agnès Pannier-Runacher.

The Minister for Energy Transition also says that she will “ensure” that energy suppliers do not take advantage of the increase in the price of electricity to increase their margins, assuring that “for the moment, we do not didn’t see that.”

Asked about the case of Engie, another supplier summoned to her ministry last Wednesday, Agnès Pannier-Runacher indicated that it was “a different situation” and that she had asked the company “that we verify that there is no anomaly” and “that we verify that customers have been informed” of the increase in their electricity bill.
