Energy prices: Why some electricity and gas are still very expensive – Economy

Customers of the municipal utility company in Ettlingen, Swabia, can be quite relaxed when it comes to energy prices. Your supplier, for example, offers one of the lowest gas prices in Germany: the public utilities charge their natural gas customers 8.50 cents per kilowatt hour (kWh). The municipal company is also in a good position when it comes to electricity, at 33.65 cents per kWh. “The trick is to buy electricity and gas in the long term,” says a spokeswoman for the municipal utility. The energy that is now on sale was bought two or three years ago: “At that time the prices were still normal.”
