Energy label defeat for Dyson economy

The British company Dyson and other vacuum cleaner manufacturers have suffered a defeat in a million dollar dispute over energy labels against the EU Commission. The EU court found on Wednesday that the Commission had neither unduly exceeded the limits of its discretion nor sufficiently violated the principles of equal treatment and good administration. The manufacturer Dyson and other plaintiffs had sued the EU Commission for damages of up to 303.2 million euros in a long-standing dispute over labels for the energy efficiency of vacuum cleaners. The companies justified the demands, among other things, with the fact that the EU Commission had put bagless vacuum cleaners at a disadvantage compared to traditional bag vacuum cleaners with a regulation. This restricted the applicants from doing business and competing fairly with other competitors.
