In the debate about energy security in Germany, Ricarda Lang from the Greens is again calling for a speed limit. The federal government should “look at everything that is on the table without prohibitions on thinking”.

The co-chair of the Greens, Ricarda Lang, has called for the introduction of a speed limit on motorways in view of efforts to save energy in Germany.

The dependence on Russian gas, oil and Russian coal has made Germany significantly vulnerable, Lang told the editorial network Germany (RND). “We have to do everything we can to get out of there as soon as possible.”

This only works by diversifying energy sources, expanding renewable energies and, in the short term, by reducing energy consumption as quickly as possible. The federal government should “look at everything that is on the table without prohibitions on thinking”. Lang stressed that no measure will immediately end dependence on oil.

“And because there are otherwise hardly any measures that take effect quickly, we now need a temporary speed limit on motorways – for example for nine months and thus until the end of the year, i.e. the time by which we want to become independent of Russian oil at the latest. » The FDP had already rejected a speed limit on motorways in the coalition negotiations with the SPD and the Greens. She stays with her in her new position.

Habeck: Legislative package will strengthen Germany

Federal Minister of Economics Robert Habeck sees a strengthening of energy security in Germany in the planned legislative package for the expansion of renewable energies. He is convinced that “everyone in the federal government will pull together and we can adopt a large renewables package, which will help us to actually achieve independence and energy security,” said the Green politician of the “Rheinische Post”.

The core component of the package is an amendment to the Renewable Energy Sources Act (EEG). That will create incentives to make renewable electricity usable for the local population, said Habeck: “With own electricity from solar systems on the roof, with tenant electricity models, citizen wind farms. We will ensure that municipalities can also participate directly in existing wind farms. This also creates an economic advantage, especially for rural regions.” He is therefore hopeful that the federal states will no longer be able to adorn themselves with the “prevention of wind power” in the future.
