In the dispute over the potential continued operation of nuclear power plants in Germany, the Liberals are putting pressure on Green Economics Minister Habeck. He’s still waiting for the results of a stress test.

The FDP energy politician Michael Kruse has called for speedy decisions on the continued operation of the three remaining nuclear power plants in Germany. The energy policy spokesman for the FDP parliamentary group told the German Press Agency that it was high time for this: “Energy prices are at record highs and consumers and businesses are rightly demanding effective steps to reduce prices and increase security of supply.”

The federal government should make the necessary decisions on the extension of the term in August so that the German Bundestag can make the necessary changes to the law in September.

Economics Minister Robert Habeck (Greens) should present the results of the stress test soon. Kruse had already spoken out in favor of extending the nuclear power plant runtimes until spring 2024.

Habeck first wants to wait for the results of a second stress test on the security of the power supply. According to current law, the Isar 2, Emsland and Neckarwestheim 2 nuclear power plants are to be shut down by December 31, 2022 at the latest.

Union politicians accused the Greens in the “Bild” newspaper of delaying the decision on the continued operation of the kiln. “The Green Party’s delaying tactics in deciding on nuclear energy are irresponsible,” said the economic policy spokeswoman for the CDU/CSU parliamentary group, Julia Klöckner.
