Energy crisis – Audi: 20 percent gas can be saved – economy

In view of the uncertain gas supply from Russia, the Volkswagen subsidiary Audi expects a savings potential of around one fifth in its consumption. “As a guideline, one can say that we could get by with around 20 percent less gas. We are able to do this with appropriate technical and organizational solutions,” said Production Director Gerd Walker automobile week. From late autumn, a reduction in room temperatures could become an issue. “But that doesn’t mean we’re where we need to be if gas runs out,” said the manager. Gas is particularly urgently needed for production processes, for example in the paint shop or in curing ovens. The Austrian steel group Voestalpine, on the other hand, claims to have stored enough gas for three months. The planned amount of 1.5 terawatt hours has been stored in rented storage facilities since this week, CEO Herbert Eibensteiner said default. “In the event of a crisis, that should be enough for three months of full operation.” Due to reduced gas supplies from Russia, Europe has to ask itself whether industrial production stops and bottlenecks in electricity generation and heating are necessary.
