Differentiated traffic, which had been in place for almost a week in Marseille in the face of ozone pollution, ends Sunday evening thanks to a planned improvement in air quality, announced the prefecture of Bouches- of the Rhone.
This decision was taken “in view of the improvement in air quality” with the end of the level 2 red alert for ozone pollution announced for Monday, detailed the prefecture in a press release.
Inflection of temperatures
Despite the heat wave alert which has been extended over a large southeast quarter until at least Tuesday morning, clouds on Monday afternoon associated with “a change in temperatures” should make it possible to “slightly reduce the photochemistry” according to AtmoSud, air quality monitoring agency.
Ozone is a gaseous pollutant resulting from the chemical transformation of other pollutants in the ambient air, under the effect of solar radiation. During this period of differentiated traffic, only light vehicles with a Crit’Air sticker from 0 to 3 were technically authorized to circulate in the center of the second city of France.
