The quiet revolution took place underground – for Federal Chancellor Olaf Scholz it is still “a shining example for our country”: After people and industry misused it for a century and a half as an open sewer and sewer, the Emscher is becoming a clean river again. After 30 years of renaturation, Scholz honored the body of water on Thursday with a symbolic act: he planted a vine in the middle of the Ruhr area.
