Awards ceremony in Los Angeles
“Succession,” “The Bear” and “Beef” win Emmy awards
Best drama series, best leading actor, best leading actress in the drama category – “Succession” lives up to its role as favorite at the Emmy Awards in Los Angeles. Another star, on the other hand, creates something unusual.
The opulent media satire “Succession” won the Emmy for best drama series of the year. At the awards ceremony on Monday (local time) in Los Angeles, the series about a declining family empire also won awards for best actor Kieran Culkin and best actress Sarah Snook, among others. “Succession” ended this year after four seasons and prevailed against seven competitors in the premier category of the world’s most important television award.
The series also won awards for best screenplay and best direction in its category.

Emmy Awards four months late
The Emmys usually take place in September. However, due to the strike, in which the actors neither took part in filming nor appeared on the red carpet, the event was postponed for four months. At the Emmys, prizes are awarded separately for drama, comedy and mini-series, and entertainment programs are also honored. In total, there are around 120 categories in the world’s most important television awards.
The series “The Bear,” about a dysfunctional Chicago restaurant, won in the best comedy series category. There were also awards for best actor, best supporting actor, screenplay and direction.
The Emmys are the de facto Oscars of television. “Succession” was the favorite for the fourth and final season of the series with 27 nominations. The HBO video game adaptation “The Last of Us,” the social satire “The White Lotus,” also produced by HBO, and the comedy series “Ted Lasso” from Apple TV+ also had more than 20 nominations.
The 75th edition of the most important US television awards ceremony was marked by nostalgic looks back at popular television shows of the past. Stars like Harrison Ford and Joan Collins were seen on the red carpet outside the Peacock Theater in downtown Los Angeles.

Elton John now “EGOT” award winner
With his Emmy win on Monday, musician Elton John becomes the 19th “EGOT” winner, an acronym for the world’s four most important entertainment awards: Emmy, Grammy, Oscar and Tony. The 76-year-old Brit won the Emmy television award for his concert “Elton John Live: Farewell From Dodger Stadium” as the best entertainment special of the year.
During his career, John won five recording industry Grammy awards, a Tony Award from New York’s Broadway Theaters for the music of the musical “Aida”, and two Oscars for songs from “The Lion King” and “Rocketman”.
The 18 other personalities who have achieved an “EGOT” so far include Audrey Hepburn, Whoopi Goldberg and most recently Viola Davis. The term probably goes back to actor Philip Michael Thomas, who announced during his time as Ricardo Tubbs in “Miami Vice” that he wanted to win the four awards within five years.
