The historical drama The Crown and the Star Wars spinoff The Mandalorian are the two most frequently nominated productions at this year’s Emmy Awards. As announced in Los Angeles on Tuesday, both have been nominated for awards in 24 categories, including best drama series.
Out The Crown Olivia Colman, Emma Corrin and Josh O’Connor are also nominated for their roles as Queen Elizabeth, Lady Di and Prince Charles in the leading actor categories. The Mandalorian was nominated mainly in technical categories.
Also the Netflix costume series Bridgerton and the series pose about the New York of the 1980s can hope for the most important television award in the USA in the category Best Drama Series, as well as Amazon’s superhero series The boys, the supernatural HBO drama Lovecraft Country as The Handmaid’s Tale and This Is Us.

Hollywood series makers are increasingly preferring mini-series, which they bind to a production for less than a five-season drama series. In this category, for example, Barry Jenkins’ slavery drama competes The Underground Railroad and the Marvel series WandaVision. The latter is actually the third most nominated production of the evening. The nominations are always exciting, said Frank Scherma, chairman of the Academy of Television Arts & Sciences. “But this year they are especially heartwarming.” The nominees not only produced their programs under challenging conditions, but also “carried” the people through the pandemic.

In total there are more than 100 categories and even more nominees. The Emmys grand prizes will be presented on September 19th at the Microsoft Theater in Los Angeles. The award ceremony will be moderated by the actor Cedric the Entertainer, who has already been awarded an Emmy ten times.
