Emmanuel Macron inspected the new spire of Notre-Dame de Paris Cathedral on Friday December 8, one year from the announced date of reopening to the public. The President of the Republic also made a special tribute to General Jean-Louis Georgelin, who led the reconstruction of Notre-Dame until his accidental death this summer, by engraving part of his name in the wood of the spire. Two special editions. A special edition, presented by Axel de Tarlé, with guests on set as well as duplexes, can be followed on franceinfo channel 27 and franceinfo.fr from 9:30 a.m. Then France 2’s “1 p.m.”, presented by Julian Bugier, will offer a set composed by Philippe Jost, president of the public establishment Rebâtir Notre-Dame de Paris, Olivier Ribadeau-Dumas, rector-archpriest of Notre-Dame de Paris, and the singer Vianney, sponsor of the Telethon 2023. Many companions and artisans of art will explain their daily restoration work on the monument. Stéphane Bern will be in duplex from the Louvre museum, where a new exhibition entitled “The treasure of Notre-Dame de Paris” is currently taking place.
A freshly erected cross. The spire of Notre-Dame found his cross on Wednesday. Overlooking a golden crown, it was lifted into the air by a crane and installed at the top of the new spire, whose restoration, under scaffolding, is nearing completion.
The end of the project is planned for 2029 or 2030. Although the reopening to the public is planned for December 8, 2024, this does not mean that the work will be completed: numerous interventions are still planned, including the restoration of the flying buttresses of the nave and the choir. This third phase of the project (after security and restoration) should only be completed at the end of the decade, in 2029 or 2030, according to the Elysée.
