Emmanuel Macron chooses Berlin for his first trip after his inauguration

French President Emmanuel Macron will travel to Berlin on Monday to meet Chancellor Olaf Scholz. This first trip since his re-election and his investiture, will be an opportunity to mark “the strength of the Franco-German couple”, announced this Thursday the Elysée.

Bilateral meeting and dinner

Emmanuel Macron will arrive in Berlin after taking part in Europe Day, at the European Parliament in Strasbourg, where the closing ceremony of the Conference on the Future of Europe will be held, one year after its launch.

With Olaf Scholz, he will address “issues related to the war in Ukraine and issues of European sovereignty”, in particular “on the aspects of defense and energy”, specified the Elysée.

“They will also discuss major international issues in the context of the German presidency of the G7, whose summit will take place in June. The situation in the Sahel, the Western Balkans and the EU-China relationship will also be discussed”, as well as “bilateral issues between France and Germany”, according to the presidency.
