Emmanuel Macron estimated Tuesday evening before the parliamentarians of his camp that it was necessary to “appease” and “listen to the anger” of the French after the disputed adoption of his pension reform by Parliament, while affirming that “the crowd” n had no “legitimacy” vis-à-vis elected officials.
“A period opens before us where we must appease, calm, return to the field and listen to anger,” said the president, according to participants in this meeting. “What I am asking the Prime Minister is to reorganize the work of the government on this basis”, he added, calling on the “ministerial cabinets” to work “much more with the parliamentarians of the majority”.
Defense of 49.3
The Head of State spoke to the parliamentarians of the presidential camp invited to the Elysee Palace at the end of a day punctuated by consultation meetings with ministers and leaders of Macronie. And on the eve of his television interview on Wednesday at 1:00 p.m. on TF1 and France 2.
He justified the use of 49.3 to have his pension reform adopted without a vote, despite the protests of opponents of the text. “Using the Constitution to pass a reform is always a good thing if we want to be respectful of our institutions,” he said.
“No alternative majority”
While the government survived, by only nine votes, a motion of censure in the Assembly on Monday, he assured that this vote demonstrated that there was “no alternative majority”. “And it is not because it passes to very few things that it is illegitimate, on the contrary”, he insisted.
“What is the hand that we have not grasped? I ask, ”said Emmanuel Macron again to defend the consultation carried out by the executive. “The crowd” which continues to demonstrate against the reform despite its final adoption has “no legitimacy in the face of the people who express themselves sovereign through their elected officials”, he however launched.
“The riot does not prevail over the representatives of the people”, he added, while new demonstrations enamelled with tensions took place Tuesday evening in Paris and elsewhere in France. In this regard, he posed as a defender of “the democratic and republican order”.
“Advancing” on “health, school and ecology”
Pressed to redefine his line to relaunch his second five-year term, the President of the Republic assured that the course was “clear”. “We must also make progress on three major advances for the French: health, school and ecology,” he pleaded.
“And at the same time, we must organize the society of full employment to think about the end of careers, long careers and painful careers while senior unemployment is at its lowest for fifteen years”, he added, sketching its next projects without going into detail.
