A World War II bomb weighing 500 kilograms is discovered in the German capital. There are two detonators on the dud that are to be removed on site and then blown up.

After a World War II bomb was found in Berlin-Friedrichshain, police specialists began to defuse it.

The traffic of the S-Bahn, regional trains, long-distance trains, buses and ships in the area was interrupted; as well as the air traffic over it. Before that, around 12,000 people had to leave the restricted area of ​​around 500 meters around the site. The evacuation lasted several hours until late Thursday evening. Part of the Spree and the Ostkreuz train station are in the restricted area.

According to the spokeswoman, the police were on Thursday afternoon with two loudspeaker vans. 250 police officers took care of the road closures and went from door to door. On Twitter, people were asked to leave the area on their own. Emergency accommodation was set up in the Mercedes-Benz Arena with a separate room for people who had tested positive for the corona virus, it said.
