First a deadly landslide in the southwest of the country, now a severe earthquake in the northwest. At least three people were injured in China’s Xinjiang region.

A strong one Earthquake has shaken the western Chinese region of Xinjiang. The China Earthquake Center said the magnitude of the quake in Aksu district was 7.1. The US Earthquake Observatory USGS reported a magnitude of 7.0.

As Chinese state broadcaster CCTV reported, no fatalities were initially reported after the quake that night. But at least three people were injured. Search and rescue work continued in the mountainous region on the border with Kyrgyzstan. Numerous aftershocks were measured.

According to the information, the epicenter was around 50 kilometers from the municipality of Wushi. There are five villages within a 20-kilometer radius of the epicenter. Two residential buildings and a cattle shed collapsed during the quake, CCTV reported. Shortly after the quake, the power supply temporarily failed in parts of the region.

Earthquakes occur again and again in the mountainous regions of western China. However, sparsely populated areas are often affected, so there are not high numbers of victims.
