A whole building complex is on fire in Essen. The fire brigade goes on a nightly large-scale operation. It is still unclear whether there are injuries or deaths.
A complete residential complex caught fire in the Westviertel in Essen early Monday morning. “All available professional fire brigades were alerted,” said a spokesman for the fire brigade.
The fire could not be brought under control. As a police spokesman said, the fire object is an L-shaped building complex.

For reasons that have not yet been explained, the buildings caught fire one after the other. The houses were evacuated. The residents were housed in a nearby university lecture hall. It was not yet known whether there were any injuries or deaths.
As the fire brigade announced on Twitter, the extinguishing work will result in obstructions in rush-hour traffic. Segerothstrasse and Friedrich-Ebert-Strasse are completely closed. According to the information, a warning was also sent via a warning app. The western quarter is immediately adjacent to the Essen city center to the west.
The “WAZ” recently reported on a series of fires in the city. There were three fires within a week in the Elting district north of the city center.
