In Hamburg’s Schanzenviertel, preparations are underway to defuse a British aerial bomb from World War II.

Because of the planned To defuse a bomb in Hamburg, Tim Mälzer’s “Bullerei” restaurant had to be evacuated on Monday evening. The cook and entrepreneur shared this on Instagram.

A spokesman for the fire brigade confirmed this. The fire brigade had previously informed that preparations for defusing a British aerial bomb from the Second World War had started on Monday evening in Hamburg’s Schanzenviertel.

The complete evacuation in a restricted radius of 300 meters has been initiated, said a fire brigade spokesman for the German Press Agency. Around 5,000 people were reported in the area who had to leave their homes. It is not yet clear when the defusing of the 500-pound bomb could begin.

The dud was found on Monday during construction work not far from the Sternschanze S-Bahn station near an underpass over which both the S-Bahn and long-distance trains run.
