Record quota for women’s football
Almost 18 million people cheered for the women’s European Championship final.

The European Championship final between Germany and England was a real ratings hit. Almost 18 million people rooted for the football women.
The German national team was beaten by England in the final of the European Women’s Football Championship on Sunday at the legendary Wembley Stadium, but the ratings are a resounding success. Because as “DWDL” reports on the basis of AGF data, “an average of 17.9 million viewers watched the final including extra time in the first”. That’s around 5.7 million more than in the semi-final against France.
“Almost two out of three people who sat in front of the television during this time chose football on Sunday,” summarizes the media magazine.
Record broken in 2011
This also broke the record from the 2011 World Cup, which took place in Germany. When the German team was eliminated in the quarter-finals, almost 17 million people sat in front of the screens. Fewer than nine million saw the women’s European Championship victory in 2013.
