Nagelsmann had called up seven offensive players, Hamann criticized and demanded: “Then you have to put together a team that covers all facets.” When asked whether Nagelsmann was the right coach, Hamann replied: “We’ll see.”
Nagelsmann only has a short time until the European Championships, he said, “but he probably knows less after the first games than he knew before the games. So the games were wasted. It’s nice to try, but you have to have stability first.”
Hamann also questioned captain Ilkay Gündogan. Its position could “still become a big point of discussion.”
He “didn’t understand why they made him captain, because as captain he always has to play.” Instead, he called for a type of player like Robert Andrich, “who has once won a duel or intervened.” This has been missing in the last twelve to 18 months.
