There is a large selection on the oat milk shelf – and a drink has recently been added: actor Elyas M’Barek and the Lazy Heroes team have launched two oat drinks. We took a closer look at the products.
For cappuccino or in muesli: oat milk is not only popular with vegans. You can find oat drinks in supermarkets, discounters, organic shops and even in drugstores for a long time. Now the oat milk range has grown: oat drinks from Lazy Heroes, which Elyas M’Barek helped to develop.
Elyas M’Barek founds oat drink start-up
Elyas M’Barek is a co-founder of the start-up Lazy Heroes and of his own Testify “on a mission to bring the best oat milk with the best foam to the market”. Behind the company name is the following philosophy: “We think it’s time to look at a different breed of Heroes. Everyday Heroes. Lazy Heroes.”
Life shouldn’t just consist of milestones and goals, according to the Lazy Heroes brand message. You can also be lazy, take a break and enjoy it. That is why the brand wants to bring uncomplicated products to the market that are suitable for everyday use.
“Fack ju Göhte” star Elyas M’Barek wants to offer “a healthy and tasty alternative to conventional milk” with the oat drinks, but at the same time “create a lifestyle brand that is not only cool, but connects people who want to enjoy themselves and don’t want to do without anything.”
New: Two Lazy Heroes oat drinks on the market
So far there are two oat drinks on offer: The “Allrounder” in a light blue box and the Barista version in a pink beverage carton. The latter can produce creamy milk froth both cold and warm. You can buy the products at Edeka, Netto Marken-Discount, Hit and Globus buy.
But what exactly is in the oat drinks? According to the manufacturer, both variants are no added sugar and vegan. We asked Lazy Heroes about the exact ingredients in the products. In the oat drink all-rounder, these are: water, oats (10%), sunflower oil, calcium carbonate, acidity regulator: potassium phosphate; sea salt, stabilizer: gellan gum; Riboflavin, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12.
The barista version consists of the following ingredients: water, oats (11%), rapeseed oil, calcium carbonate, acidity regulator: potassium phosphates; Sea Salt, Riboflavin, Vitamin D, Vitamin B12.
Long lists of ingredients and, above all, lists of additives indicate that products are heavily processed. Fresh, unprocessed foods make up a healthy diet. Other oat drinks on the market come with less additives out of. When asked, Lazy Heroes explains to us: “For our first two products, the mission was to be as similar as possible to cow’s milk in terms of micronutrient profile.” That’s why oat milk is included Calcium and vitamin enriched.
Lazy Heroes Oat Milk: Ingredients come from Europe
Oat milk is an ecological alternative to cow’s milk. However, it is important that the ingredients are grown regionally as far as possible. The one used Oats comes at Lazy Heroes from Europe (of the EU and Great Britain), as well as rapeseed and sunflower oil. However, all three foods also grow in Germany. The production takes place at a partner in Europe, the start-up told Utopia.
One Organic certification have the drinks from Lazy Hero not. However, this is also not possible in the EU due to the above-mentioned additions. However, the company informed us that they are considering an organic oat milk.
Oat drink in Tetra Pak
Like many other oat drinks, the Lazy Heroes are also filled in cartons. The Tetra Paks used are based on 80 percent plant-based material, specifically sugar cane. Nevertheless, the carton remains a one-way packaging. In organic markets you can also buy oat drinks in returnable glass bottles.
Utopia says: Oat milk instead of cow’s milk in muesli or coffee is a development that we have welcomed for years. Oat drinks exclude animal suffering and protect the climate. Which brand you choose is of course up to you.
We at Utopia definitely recommend Oat drinks with an organic seal and regional ingredients. After all, oats grow in Germany and do not have to be imported from other EU countries and Great Britain, as is the case with Lazy Heroes. To save on packaging, you can also make your own oat milk or buy it in a reusable bottle at an organic market instead of in a carton.
