Elton John played the last concert of his farewell tour in Stockholm. Also included: hits from half a century of music career.

“This is it” (in German: “That was it!”): Elton John (76) said goodbye to his fans with the last concert of his farewell tour.

In Stockholm, the British superstar played in front of tens of thousands of spectators in Stockholm’s Tele2 Arena on Saturday (8 July). A great moment for the world star, who began his success story half a century ago. He was also aware of that – so he greeted the audience sentimentally after the first two songs with the words “That’s it”.

Actually, Elton John wanted to step down a long time ago: The more than 300 concerts on his “Farewell Yellow Brick Road” tour started in September 2018 and had dragged on for years due to the corona pandemic and personal illnesses.

Now the time had come. On the stage in Stockholm he said loudly “BBC”: “It was my lifeblood to play for you and you were just great.” The 76-year-old performed his world hits “I’m Still Standing”, “Candle in the Wind”, “Tiny Dancer” and “Rocket Man”.

“I had the most wonderful career”

The performance, for which Elton John had dressed up as expected, lasted two and a half hours: a tailcoat with glitter applications and large pink glasses with sparkling stones completed his stage outfit. Elton John finally ended the performance after two and a half hours with the words “I’ve had the most wonderful career” and the last encore “Goodbye Yellow Brick Road”.

He said goodbye to his compatriots at the end of June at the legendary Glastonbury Festival with his last concert in Great Britain. With his farewell tour, during which he played for more than six million fans, he broke several records – the tour is said to have brought in the equivalent of more than 820 million euros.

However, it is doubtful that it could really have been Elton John’s last concert. On stage he confirmed that he “will never go on tour again” – but he could imagine doing a “one-off thing” in the future, which probably means individual concerts.

In the future, the world star would like to have more time for his family: Among other things, Elton John, his husband David Furnish (60) and their two sons Zachary and Elijah have big travel plans. So it’s supposed to go to Antarctica and India, as Furnish revealed to the “Mirror” in April.
