It’s a duel of tough women in “Beat the Star”: The ex-“GNTM” candidate and ProSieben presenter Rebecca Mir (“taff”) competes against ex-Youtuberin and actress Nilam Farooq (“Contra”).

Mir brought her husband, the dancer Massimo Sinató, to the audience – he was also a candidate for “Schlag den Star”. In 2016 he could only win three games against handball player Andreas Wolff. He has hopes for his wife: “She’s good at focusing and maybe she’ll rock it.” However, as he reveals later, she is actually in bed by 10:30 p.m. – when she has put her son to bed.

Nilam Farooq has brought along actor Edin Hasanović. In 2021 he lost to singer Wincent Weiss on “Beat the Star”. “The woman is a machine,” he says of Farooq.

But there is no sign of the (combat) machine-like handling of the two opponents. There’s something very kind about him. Even the obligatory diss video at the beginning was missing. One time or another they hug and congratulate each other on winning the round. The evening proceeds largely undramatic. Sometimes one wins, then the other. In the athletic games, Rebecca Mir is a bit ahead.

Embarrassing ignorance

Embarrassing this time is not the knowledge classic “Blamieren oder kassen”, in which otherwise celebrity gaps in current knowledge often appear, but the picture guessing game “Who is that?”

Rebecca Mir delivers the first cracker in the rehearsal round, when a photo of the Federal President appears and she says “Franz-Walter Steinmeier”. “That would be wrong then,” judges Nilam Farooq, but correctly, after all, his name is Frank-Walter. And otherwise it’s amazing how few (semi) celebrities they know: Entrepreneur Ralf Dümmel (“The Lion’s Den”) – no idea. Ex-soccer player and current Dortmund coach Edin Terzić – at least they think they know that he is a soccer player.

The Geiss daughters Shania and Davina can sometimes be confused, like Nilam does, but you should know FDP politician Marie-Agnes Strack-Zimmermann, singer Harry Belafonte, science journalist Harald Lesch or ESC commentator Peter Urban too. Nilam can’t think of chef Tim Raue’s last name, but at least she does know in the end that the last picture shows Marius Müller-Westernhagen.

Everyone is wondering: what’s next for “Schlag den Star”?

It was news that caught the TV scene by surprise this week. The game “Blamieren oder kassieren”, which was released as a separate show from “Schlag den Star”, should be shown on RTL for the first time this fall, just like “Schlag denBesten” in 2024. Both shows will be moderated by “Schlag den Star” host Elton.

The question of whether “Beat the Star” will continue to exist on ProSieben and who will moderate it in the future is in the room. Although Elton can already be seen on ZDF and ARD, among others, “Beat the Best” has already differed only slightly from “Beat the Star” and even less in the revised form on RTL: In the future, celebrities will appear various duels against each other. In the final, the two best play against each other for the jackpot. It would be strange if Elton hosted two very similar formats on two competing commercial channels.

Of course, he doesn’t say anything about it explicitly. And so the viewers look for a clue in everything. For example, the RTL nobility expert Michael Begasse appears with a clearly visible RTL pin on his lapel as a head to be guessed, or assistant Korinna hugs Elton particularly tightly when she brings him his red jacket for “embarrass or cash in”. But it stays with possible gestures, into which one can interpret a lot.

But it’s not just irony, there’s also outrage when viewers think about the future.

There are also hopes that some associate with the broadcast on RTL. For example, Frank Buchmann returning as a commentator.

And the eternal hope of all linear TV viewers: less advertising.

In principle, there is a lot of advertising on all ProSieben shows. But this time it was once again particularly agonizing: At the beginning after each game, later sometimes also in the middle of the game rounds. And after the commercial Bosse plays his song “Ein Traum” before the interrupted game round is resumed. At 1:35 a.m., Rebecca asks Mir Elton: “Is there another commercial break?” And he answers with a deep sigh: “No. I hope not.”

Before the finale, Rebecca Mir sinks to the floor. “I notice my body, do you too?” Nilam Farooq lies down next to it and Elton also comes along. “I notice my body every day,” he says.

The actual final game begins at 1.52 a.m.: Balance on two supports longer than the opponent. Nilam Farooq turns her back to the audience to set a point, she also sends Elton out of sight. Rebecca Mir starts to wobble after two and a half minutes, but stands up to four and a half minutes. Then it’s 60:60.

So the trick game is needed. You have to maneuver a steel ball with a string-directed holder over a pegboard. In the end, Nilam makes it first and she is surrounded by her companions. “We’re only disturbing here,” says Elton amused and withdraws a bit.

But there is still the big question of how to proceed with “Schlag den Star” – you don’t really know. But Elton announces: “We’re going to take a little summer break first, then we’ll see each other again, I think in August.” He also hinted at a third version of the “Beat the Star” computer game during the show. How things will continue after that remains to be seen.
