Russia annexes territories – Ukraine celebrates reconquest
The Russian military in Donetsk was forced to withdraw shortly after the annexation of four Ukrainian regions. The Ukrainian troops are increasingly succeeding in recapturing Russian-occupied areas. Meanwhile, in Russia, the full annexation of the separatist regions is being pushed ahead.

Dhe richest man in the world, Tesla CEO Elon Musk, has Twitter presented a proposed solution for ending the war in Ukraine. According to this, referendums are to be held under the supervision of the United Nations in the four areas now annexed by the Kremlin in southern and eastern Ukraine: Cherson, Donetsk, Luhansk and Zaporizhia. Russia must leave the territories if the people want to belong to Ukraine. As a state, this will then become neutral in the future and not a member of NATO.
The Crimean peninsula, annexed by Russia in 2014, should be given to Moscow – especially since, as Musk claimed, it had been formally part of Russia since 1783 “until Khrushchev’s mistake”. At the same time, Crimea’s water supply would be guaranteed through the canal from the Dnipro River. Musk considers such a scenario, which comes very close to Russia’s demands, to be “most likely“. The only question is how many people would have to die by then. A victory for Ukraine is unlikely – so those who care about Ukraine should work for peace, Musk continued.
Kyiv responded promptly. “There is a better proposal,” Presidential Office Advisor Mykhailo Podoliak wrote. on twitter. Accordingly, Ukraine will completely liberate its territory, including the annexed Crimea. Russia will then be completely demilitarized, will have to give up its nuclear weapons and “can no longer threaten anyone”. The Russian war crimes would also be brought before an international tribunal.
Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba accused Musk of using the word peace as a euphemism for the formula “Let the Russians murder and rape thousands more innocent Ukrainians and steal more land”.
The outgoing Ukrainian ambassador to Germany, Andriy Melnyk, put it a little more briefly and directly. “Fuck Off is my very diplomatic answer,” he wrote to Musk.
Later also wrote President of Ukraine Zelenskyy another tweet about the cause. He just created a poll with two possible answers: “Which Elon Musk do you like better? a) The one who supports Ukraine, b) The one who supports Russia”.
Later, Lithuanian President Gitanas Nausėda also reacted: “Dear Elon Musk, if someone tries to steal your Tesla’s tires, that doesn’t make them the legal owner of the car or the tires…”
Musk and Ukraine have actually had a good relationship so far. For example, the Starlink satellite network operated by Musk’s space company SpaceX helped secure internet coverage in Ukraine. The Ukrainian military also uses it for real-time communication and has thus been able to significantly improve the efficiency of its reconnaissance. “That decisively changed the course of the war,” space expert Professor Ulrich Walter recently analyzed at WELT.
