Elon Musk ready to step down on Twitter – Economy

Elon Musk will step down as head of Twitter – once he finds a successor for the post of chief executive officer (CEO). The owner of the short message service explains this in a tweet. More specifically, Musk is talking about stepping down as soon as I find someone foolish enough to take the job. He himself then only wants to lead the software and server teams.

The billionaire had started looking for a new CEO, according to insiders, after a poll he posted to the social media site showed that a majority of users think he should step down from his role as head of the company.

57.5 percent of the survey participants voted for his resignation

More than 10 million users, or 57.5 percent, voted in favor of Musk’s resignation, according to the results received on Monday morning. Musk promised to stick to the results when he launched the poll, but almost a day later he had tweeted more than a dozen times without directly addressing the result.

Several Twitter accounts suggested the poll might have been tampered with by bots, prompting Musk to respond to one of those accounts with a single word: “interesting.” In one of his first tweets after the poll, Musk said Twitter would limit voting on major policy decisions to paying Twitter Blue subscribers.

“There is no successor,” Musk tweeted earlier this week

Musk has run Twitter almost single-handedly since buying the company for $44 billion in October. He said early on that he didn’t plan on staying on as CEO permanently, and he’s surrounded himself with a few trusted people, some of whom have indicated they’d be willing to take on what Musk calls a thankless task. “Nobody wants the job that can really keep Twitter alive. There is no successor,” Musk tweeted earlier this week.
