Elfie Donnelly invented Benjamin Blümchen and Bibi Blocksberg and conquered children’s rooms with radio plays. In an interview, she talks about the sudden success of her audio books – and her difficult childhood.

Ms. Donnelly, who were the heroines of your childhood stories?
In his stories, my grandfather made me an adventuress in historical events. Sometimes I was Elfie Columbus sailing to America. That was nice. Because in many children’s stories back then, boys were the main characters.
