It is a phenomenon which is becoming more and more common and worrying. In the summer of 2021, a law firm based in Lyon, Bordeaux, Paris and Lille was the victim of ransomware, reveals
franceinfo. The cabinet noticed this because of the paralysis of its system, before a first ransom of 500,000 euros was demanded. But the amount then increased due to the sensitive nature of the hacked data.
The firm, specializing in bodily injury compensation, had as a client one of the civil parties in the attack on Charlie hebdo. Elements of the investigation file thus fell into the hands of the hackers, who shared at least one photo of the crime scene on a public hacker forum. However, it was recently deleted.
According to information from franceinfo, the Everest hacker group is suspected of being the origin of this hack. A hacker accused of acting as an intermediary between this group and the law firm was arrested in mid-November. The investigation is continuing under the direction of a Parisian examining magistrate.
